The World Golfers Championship (WGC) is an international tournament designed to give amateur golfers the thrill and prestige of a global championship event by featuring qualifier players from around the world. WGC has five handicap flights of 0-5, 6-10, 11-15, 16-20 and 21-25 so that individuals play against others of equal skill, and as a national team.
The World Golfers Championship Singapore 2008 is open to all male and female Singaporeans, PRs and Green Card (Employment Pass) holders aged over 18, with a recognised U.S.G.A or S.G.A. handicap. The Championship encompasses twelve Club qualifier legs between April-September 2008, with the 9th leg on Wednesday 6 August 2008 (entry closing date Friday 1 August) at the Sentosa Golf Club and the 10th leg on Friday 29 August 2008 (entry closing date Thursday 21 August) at the National Service Golf & Country Club. The winners of the handicap divisions from each of the twelve Club rounds go forward to play on the Serapong Course at the Sentosa Golf Club on Thursday 9 October 2008 in the Singapore National Finals, which will be graced by WGC Founder Sven Tumba and HRH Princess Brigitta of Sweden. The winner each handicap division in the Singapore Finals earns a place in the Singapore national team which will play in the WGC World Finals between Saturday 22 - Saturday 29 November 2008 at Mission Inn, Florida, USA.

The fourth edition of the LPGA-sanctioned Lexus Cup women's golf tournament returns (after being staged in Australia last year) to Singapore between Friday 28 - Sunday 30 November 2008. Previously hosted in 2005 and 2006 at the Tanah Merah Country Club, this year's venue is the Singapore Island Country Club, with bigger prize money of USD 1 million. The tournament, which features 12 players on each Asia-versus-the-world team, is played under foursomes, fourballs and singles format; players earn berths through rankings or the official LPGA money list, with the captains also having special picks. Team Asia and Team International will be captained respectively by Pak Se-ri and Annika Sorenstam (who will retire from competitive golf at the end of the season).
